Melco Resorts Philippines Foundation Corporation, the corporate social responsibility arm of City of Dreams Manila, has funded the PHP20 million rehabilitation of Sunshine Park in Baguio City.
The project demonstrates how gaming and hospitality companies can create meaningful social impact beyond their resort operations.

A Better Public Space for Baguio
Sunshine Park is located near universities, government offices, commercial areas and transport facilities. It is regularly used by students, residents, workers, artists and visitors.
The rehabilitation preserved familiar features such as the park’s stage, ramp and drop-off area while introducing several improvements.
These include upgraded pathways, new landscaping, outdoor exercise equipment, picnic tables and improved public facilities.
A new artwork titled Language of Photography, created by Baguio artist Clinton Aniversario, was also installed to strengthen the park’s cultural identity.

Designed Around Community Needs
The redevelopment was not planned as a simple beautification exercise.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong explained that the design was shaped by years of observing how residents used the park, together with consultations involving educational institutions, artists, local organisations and other stakeholders.
The objective was to meet changing community needs while preserving the welcoming character that made Sunshine Park a familiar part of everyday life in Baguio.
The park can now provide more opportunities for recreation, learning, cultural activities and creative expression.
What MRP Foundation Said
Clarence Chung, President of MRP Foundation and Chairman and President of Melco Resorts and Entertainment Philippines, said the project reflects the foundation’s commitment to “creating lasting value through public spaces that strengthen communities and enhance quality of life.”
This is an important message for the gaming and hospitality industry.
Corporate social responsibility should not only consist of one-time donations. The strongest initiatives create assets that communities can continue using for many years.
Why the Project Matters
Public parks contribute to healthier and more connected communities.
They provide places where people can exercise, relax, study, meet others and participate in cultural activities. Well-maintained parks can also improve the appearance and attractiveness of a city.
For Baguio, the rehabilitation supports the city’s broader sustainability and community-development efforts.
For City of Dreams Manila, it demonstrates that an integrated resort can contribute to society beyond tourism, gaming and entertainment.
Original Insight: Public Spaces Create Shared Brand Value
The most valuable outcome is not only the physical improvement of the park.
The project creates shared value.
Residents receive a better place for recreation and community activities. Baguio strengthens its public infrastructure and tourism environment. MRP Foundation demonstrates responsible corporate citizenship.
This is an effective model for integrated resorts across Asia. Companies can use their resources and project-management experience to support public spaces, education, environmental projects and community facilities.
Final Takeaway
The rehabilitation of Sunshine Park shows how corporate social responsibility can produce visible and lasting results.
Through its PHP20 million contribution, MRP Foundation has helped transform an important public space into a more accessible, active and culturally meaningful destination.
For gaming and hospitality operators, the lesson is clear: strong community investment is not separate from business leadership.
It is part of building trust, strengthening relationships and creating long-term value for the places where companies operate.
