Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has officially launched a new office in Singapore’s Central Business District, a move designed to bolster its tourism and MICE foothold across Southeast Asia. The initiative supports the Macau SAR Government’s strategy of attracting more international visitors, aligning with incentives like the up-to-5% GGR tax reduction for non-Greater-China tourists.
Strategic Alignment with Macau’s Diversification Goals
The office is more than a regional outreach—it embodies Macau’s vision of evolving from a gaming-only hub into a globally diversified tourism destination. Operating in Singapore—a vibrant gateway to Southeast Asian markets—enables GEG to offer “bespoke travel experiences tailored to the preferences of Singaporean and regional travelers, ensuring seamless journeys from planning to arrival.”
Strengthening the MICE Value Proposition
Beyond leisure, the facility will serve as a dedicated hub for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE). GEG expects to reinforce its status as a hospitality leader and trusted partner for business tourism. This ambition mirrors actions by competitors: Melco, for instance, opened its own sales office in Singapore in 2023 to tap into the region’s burgeoning MICE market.
Putting Faces to the Strategy
GEG marked the opening with an elegant gala at JW Marriott Singapore. Elmen Lee, Director of Integrated Resort Services, emphasized Singapore’s importance as a source market:
“Singapore has always been an important source market for Macau … Galaxy Entertainment Group’s diverse offerings will attract more Singaporean visitors to visit us.”
This reflects GEG’s broader intent to cultivate deeper market ties and brand visibility across Asia.
Enhancing Macau’s Global Appeal
Macau recorded approximately 5,800 Singaporean arrivals in July, a 2.9% year-on-year increase, though still a modest share of total visitors. The Singapore office provides a direct channel to stimulate this segment—and potentially expand it—with curated itineraries, streamlined planning, and elevated engagement.
Long-Term Outlook and Competitive Context
Galaxy’s move underscores a strategic shift under new leadership. As Chairman Francis Lui continues steering the company toward a “holistic luxury experience” that emphasizes non-gaming and integrated hospitality assets, boosting international connectivity is central.
With Galaxy already operating world-class resorts like Galaxy Macau, Broadway Macau, and StarWorld Hotel, the Singapore office amplifies distribution reach and supports GEG’s goal to reinforce Macau’s position as the “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.”
